Available For Adoption

Puppies bred at Afrikenji are the result of careful planning & the research of pedigrees, taking into consideration conformation, temperaments, & health information. The puppies in a litter that are not for showing are available to lifelong family homes. As we do not breed every year we invite expressions of interest early.

Our puppies are raised in our home which makes them very well socialised with all the hustle and bustle of a normal household. We evaluate our litters for show potential at 8 weeks of age. After the puppies have been graded, each individual puppy is then matched with the most suitable home on our waiting list. Puppies can leave for their new homes between 8 and 9 weeks of age.

If at all practical I like to deliver the puppy to his new home and settle him in so he is already in familiar surroundings by the time I leave. We have found this method works very well and greatly reduces the stress on the puppy of travelling to a new home, with new people and new surroundings and helps puppy settle quickly into his new home.

Puppies have been vaccinated, wormed, microchipped, vet checked & have been eye tested by a qualified Animal Opthamologist before they leave us. They are also registered with the Victorian Canine Association, on limited registration; which means the papers show all the puppies details and pedigree but the puppy is not for breeding or showing. They are also sold with a written agreement that they be desexed and will receive $50 back once we sight a copy of the desexing receipt or certificate.

Each of our puppies also take home with them a "Puppy Pack" which includes a folder containing diet sheets, loads of information, a favorite toy, a nylabone and food. We also advise that you leave a puppy blanket with us when you visit the puppies so that it can get the smells from his mum and litter mates on it to take home with him so puppy has some familiar smells to help settle him for his first few nights away from his littermates.

‹ !! To add a puppy to your life is a serious commitment for the lifetime of the dog so please think carefully about whether you have the time, energy & resources to care for your puppy into adulthood and old age. Basenjis can live from 13 -15 years on average so adding a new puppy to your family should never be an impulse decision. !!

If at any time your circumstances change and you find yourself unable to care for your dog any longer please contact us and never leave your Basenji at a shelter.
